Help!

It looks like I'll need to find a new webhost again.

If anyone can suggest a good one, please do. I'm so tired of changing hosts!

One down, many to go

I haven't talked about this much before, but I've set up websites for a couple of my father's friends. They're relatively basic sites, of course; nothing too fancy. But I've put in some time on them, revising and updating. So just in case anyone's curious:

The Gamma Institute - I'll be honest. I don't entirely understand what this is about. Maybe someone can explain it to me.

Armenian Art Gallery - A site for an Armenian artist now living in France. I've just completed work on a considerably updated and expanded version; he hasn't approved it yet, but the test version can be found here.

Sigh

Suddenly, without warning or any cause that I can see, my main email address is no longer working. Write to pmaranci at gmail dot come if you need to reach me.

ARGH! F-CKING FUITADNET!!!

My latest post on the Fuitadnet forums:
> moderator: I just want to know what did you do to get on so many spam lists in the first place?

1. I've been on the internet going back to the late 1980's, and was active on Usenet for all that time.

2. I included my email address in all my posts (remember, this was before spam existed).

3. My primary website has been up for almost nine years now. It has always included my email address.

4. Before that, I had ANOTHER website with my email address.

I can only guess that whenever spammers swap email address lists, my address is the first one on those lists. I can assure you that I've NEVER bought anything from a spammer. I've never even used a mail client which would allow spammers to know that their spam had even been read. And normally I have always deleted all spam unread, unless I am tricked by an ambiguous subject and Sent-by.

I don't know. I'd speculate that spammers are taking revenge for my Message to Spammers, but I only put that up a couple of years ago.

HEY! My account has been SUSPENDED again, and my site is DOWN!!

You guys are going to KILL my Google ranking.

GRRRR!!!!!!

Spam, continued

There's a chance that the Fuitadnet mods might delete this post, so I'm saving a backup copy here.
Just for the record, this problem has still not been resolved.

It has been ten days now.

This morning I had to manually delete 891 spams which had arrived since midnight.

If this goes on much longer I am going to lose my mind. Ever had to manually review 891 spam headers about sperm? It's no goddamned picnic, I can assure you.

My brain hurts.

A Post from Fuitadnet

This is a post from the Fuitadnet forums - specifically, for tickets which have not been resolved. That section is (it says) reviewed daily by the CEO.

So why am I cross-posting it here? Because it makes me laugh, even though I wrote it. See if you can guess why.
Ticket #DKQ-60918-644 (SpamAssassin)
------------------------------------------------------
This is a continuation of the long chain of SpamAssassin tickets and problems I've had for the last year or so.

I've gotten some response, but the last one I got suggested that SpamAssassin was working correctly. Since a week ago only 1-2 spams a day got into my inbox, and for the past three days it has been 1000+ per day, I have a hard time believing that SpamAssassin is just fine.

I also have a hard time believing that hundreds of spams with subjects like "FIND YOUR F-CK-BUDDY" (without the expurgation I've used here) would normally make it through a properly functioning SpamAssassin.

Yes, I have a juvenile sense of humor. So sue me.

Holy cow! Dirty laundry explosion!

A thread I started in webhostingtalk.com has become extremely interesting. Current and former employees of my webhosting company are ripping into each other. It's very educational, to say the least!

Back down, back up...

Email went down again last night, around 7-8pm. I got online with a support person and they got it back up around 1PM today. But all email sent to me during the hiatus was apparently lost.

No real explanations of any of this have been given.

It's amazing how hard it is to go to sleep with my site and email still down.

If anyone needs to reach me, email:

Bog, I really hope they fix it before I wake up. BTW, I posted a message on the forum and at least two other people are also having this problem.
