Site stuff

There has been lots going on with my website lately. Some of it I can't talk about, yet.

But what I can say is that as of last night, my domains were out of Fuitadnet's hands and transferred to a reputable third-party registrar. And my site is also, now, off of Fuitadnet.

I'm free!

Things are already set up and running fine. The site itself hasn't changed, of course; I'm hoping to make some improvements, but that will come later. Actually, though, there is one change I need to make soon: the guestbook. Alxnet, the free service that hosts my old guestbook, is completely unreachable almost all of the time. Has anyone tried phpBook? Does it have good spam protection? That's my major concern.

Okay, time for me to sleep. I have a splitting headache.

My domains are trapped at Fuitadnet.

The new registrar sent email to the administrative address for the domains, which is at maranci.net. Unfortunately, the emails didn't come through. I don't know why. I checked the spam box as well as the inbox. Nothing.

I'd log in and change the administrative addresses to my Gmail account, but I don't remember how to do that. I'm pretty sure that I did it through a Fuitadnet tool, though, so the point is moot. Why? Because Fuitadnet is totally down, and has been down for two days now.

They're just not there. My site itself is up, but Fuitadnet is gone.

All I can do, I guess, is wait for Fuitadnet to reappear. Then I'll get the info I need on how to edit my administrative addresses, have the new registrar re-email me, and hopefully everything will be fine.

My site may disappear for a while, but maybe not. We'll see.

I posted this in "Unresolved Tickets":
I opened this ticket to request the authorization codes necessary to transfer my domains. The response was that I'd need to pay all three invoices due on my account before the codes would be released, for a total of $109.78. However, two of those three invoices are for domain registrations that won't expire until 11-Oct-2007 and 29-mar-2008, according to Internic's whois.

I believe that my hosting may have expired on 3/5, although the invoice for it is dated 3/12.

I've emailed Billing, and also opened a ticket asking why I'm being forced to pay two invoices which are for 8 and 12 months from now. So far no answer.

NO. The issue is NOT ISP connectivity. As I have said each time I've spoken to Support, I have been testing the site from two totally separate computers, located in different states, with entirely separate and different net connections. Furthermore, I have eight alerts on file from siteuptime.com. The site is going up and down, frequently. As you can read in the Fuitadnet forums, others have been experiencing the same problem.

PLEASE DO NOT CLOSE THIS TICKET AGAIN. This is a real problem, and it needs to be addressed.

If I had the money, I'd move my site...but I won't have the money until February or March.

A copy of a post this evening from the Fuitadnet forums.

Subject: SpamAssassin again

After several months SpamAssassin went down again on my account this morning. 3,000+ spams per day are now spurting into my inbox.

I am...concerned.

So, I've been off the Fnet forums for a while. Is everything good here now? Did service improve dramatically, thanks to those new extra-qualified staffers?

Jeeze, that's strange. That sounds kind of sarcastic. I didn't mean it to come out that way. Time for me to get some sleep.

Between you and me, I've got to admit something: I did mean to sound sarcastic. Well, not initially, but somewhere in the middle I lost my patience. Could you tell?

A thread I started in webhostingtalk.com has become extremely interesting. Current and former employees of my webhosting company are ripping into each other. It's very educational, to say the least!

Email went down again last night, around 7-8pm. I got online with a support person and they got it back up around 1PM today. But all email sent to me during the hiatus was apparently lost.

No real explanations of any of this have been given.
