Last week Sebastian made his first recognizable drawing: the sun. I hadn't prompted him to do it at all. He was scribbling away in the corner, when he called out "Daddy, come see! I drew the sun!"

And sure enough, there it was - a circle (lopsided, but definitely a circle) with rays coming out all around. The representation was clear.

On Friday afternoon he surprised me yet again:

"Daddy, an 'A'!"

And it was! A clear capital "A". Today, Teri tells me, he has also drawn a perfect B, as well as a recognizeable C and D. And it's still more than a month before his third birthday.

He started school today, too. He was a bit nervous about being in a new classroom with new teachers, but the classroom is right next to his old one, and almost all of his classmates from summer camp/daycare have moved into the 3-year-old class with him. I'll call soon to see how he's doing.

Things were quiet yesterday (Sebastian was visiting Teri's mother) when I finally got the chance to install the XP service pack 2. I must admit that I was worried; I'd heard that SP2 had killed some systems, and my system is more vulnerable than most.

But it needed to be done.

I'd heard that it was a 75 MB download, but it was actually 92 MB. At several points I feared that the system had frozen and crashed, but each time it turned out to be just...thinking. After all was said and done I restarted, and a security screen came up. Long story short, the whole thing worked well and seems to be a genuine enhancement to XP - I'm shocked!

I've been busy lately; I've been spending more of my computer time at home answering emails, working on my RuneQuest site, and that sort of thing. To tell you the truth, I've been just as happy to have an excuse to avoid playing Diablo 2.

But things have been getting quieter lately, so with mixed feelings I took up D2 again. But this time, rather than continue with the single-player characters I've been working on, I decided to venture out into the world of Battle.net.

I'm chicken; I've set all of my games there at a maximum of one player, and I password-protect my games as well. Somehow I'm sure that if I go into an open game I will be instantly PKed.

That kind of sucks, to tell you the truth. I'd really like to play with other people on Battle.net. But I don't know anyone who's playing D2 these days. Charibdis doesn't have the time. Klyfix doesn't have the software. Unquietsoul5 doesn't have a decent net connection.

So what do I do? How do I find some decent people to play with online, people who won't explode me the first time they get me alone in a combat area? I just don't know.

On the commuter rail ride home I once again was left standing for the first half of the trip. I'm used to it, so it didn't really bother me. But after about twenty minutes my brain processed the graffiti on the safety poster on the opposite wall.

I couldn't help it - I laughed so hard tears came to my eyes. People thought I was nuts. The conductor got it, though.

I don't know if many people in the world would find it as funny as I did. I wonder if some of the passengers thought I'd written the graffiti. Doesn't really matter. I was able to find the same poster online and made the necessary additions.
