Mitt Is Shit
Jun. 6th, 2005 03:04 pmMy dad mentioned quite a while ago that he'd like to start a website called "Mitt Is Shit", which is unusual; he doesn't normally use that sort of language. On the other hand, I get my sense of political outrage from BOTH my parents...just in case you were wondering.
There's been a lot of hot air in the Boston Globe about Mitt Romney's "changing" position on abortion. When he was running for governor of Massachusetts, he proudly proclaimed himself a pro-choice Republican. Like a bunch of idiots from a bad romance novel, the voters bought his line, even though everyone with half a brain KNEW it was bullshit. Now that he's moving on towards the presidential race in 2008 - and make no mistake, he'd personally slaughter his own mother to get in that race - he can't ditch his pro-choice views fast enough.
But the Globe insists on pretending that his position is "changing", even though one of his OWN PEOPLE admitted that Romney had successfully lied to the voters of Massachusetts. This bullshit from a putatively liberal newspaper enrages me.
So I wrote the following letter to the Globe.
Let's see if they publish it!

So Governor Romney's position on abortion is "evolving"? He's "coming around"?
Why not tell the truth? Romney cynically lied to the voters of Massachusetts, and got away with it.
Congratulations, pro-choice Romney supporters: you bought the line of a smooth-talking con artist. Having got what he wanted from you - a platform from which to launch a Presidential campaign - he's ready to ditch the voters of Massachusetts without a single thought. Indeed, he has been gleefully and publicly sneering about the Massachusetts electorate while wooing right-wing apparatchiks in the South.
None of this should be a surprise to anyone who has paid even the slightest attention to Mitt Romney's career. His convictions are as deep as his tan.
Next time, could you try to vote a little more wisely?
Let's see if they publish it!
