Salon has been doing a decent series of articles about Scientology. I know a bit about Scientology, and I view it as a dangerous cult.

Apparently a lot of Scientologists have been writing angry letters to Salon, so I dashed off a letter to them today:

Subject: Scientology Cruise

Just a quick note from a long-time subscriber. Please don't let the Scientologists intimidate you - they're the NRA of the religious-cult world, and you're in line for a million postcards.

It just means you're doing something right. Good work on the Scientology exposes!

We'll see if they publish it.

Just catching up on some political notes.

I came up with what I thought was a pretty good idea, so I posted it in a few places:

The Democrats community here, where I got quite a bit of helpful feedback.

The official Democrats blog where I got a few hopeful responses.

And I did a diary entry on the Daily Kos, where it met resounding silence. I seem to be condemned to being eternally ignored on Kos, so I got a little annoyed and posted the following:

Subject: Who do you have to blow to get feedback here? (none / 0)

Just wondering. I've been doing occasional diary entries for a while now, working up what I and a few other people think are damn good ideas, and for all the response I got today I might as well have written it in Urdu.

I contacted the company that manufactures humvee armor for the US military and have an inquiry in to see if private citizens can buy that armor and send it to the troops. Seemed like something the Democratic Party could get behind; it does some good and really points up the terrible job Bush has been doing on his supposedly #1 strength, supporting the troops and fighting terrorism.

Maybe the idea sucks, although I can't see why. If it does, someone please let me know, and I'll stop wasting my time with all this.

The sole response I got on the comment was a rating of "2", i.e. "crappy", from some jackass. I'm strongly tempted to punt Kos altogether and look for a new progressive forum...

Question: I want to post a lot of photographs online for my friends and family. I want to be able to protect some of them with passwords to limit access (don't worry, I'm not posting naked photos of myself - the world has enough ugly things in it as it is ).

And I want it to be free.

Can anyone suggest a good service? Fuitadnet offers a few options with their accounts, but given the quality of their service I'd do better to print out the photos in black & white and dump them from the top of the Landmark Tower, trusting the four winds to carry them to their various destinations...

There was another question, but I just deleted it.
