Snow

It's Tuesday morning, and we've got the first nor'easter of the year. It's hard to tell how bad it is; right now there are about three or four inches on the ground, I'd say. But it's still coming down fast, so I'm staying home from work.

We had a power outage this morning; the lights turned dim for a few minutes, then went out altogether. Actually, the odd thing was that Sebastian's night light still glowed faintly while the rest of the power was out. Anyway, the power came back about ten minutes ago.

I'd better post this now, while I can.

Just a quick note: something interesting from a friend of mine. He has a journal on LJ, but doesn't post on it.

His father lives in the Netherlands, and sends him mail every so often. Just to be clear, his father is an American citizen and does not have an Arabic name (nor is he, in fact, Arabic).

Anyway, my friend recently received a letter from his father. It had been cut open, and then taped shut again. And it had been stamped "Inspected by the Department of Homeland Security".

Our tax dollars at work.

New Year

Okay.

I don't believe in New Year's resolutions; or at least, not for me. They're pretty much doomed to be broken, right from the start.

But having said that, there are some things that I'd like to note down for myself, things that should help me in the year to come - IF I can keep them in mind.
1. I need to try to move my sleeping time towards 9:30 PM. Too often I've been staying up until midnight. I need more sleep than that.

2. I'll sleep better if I don't eat after 8 PM. Or maybe even earlier. And I might lose a little weight that way, too.

3. An hour spent writing fiction is more satisfying than an hour spent playing Diablo.

4. I've been too damned lonely this year - hell, these last few years. One way or another, I need more of a social life. And so does my family.

5. Fear is my great enemy. I need to find better ways to fight it.

6. If something stresses me, I need to cut it out - or at least reduce it. The trick is to realize what's stressing me.

7. Use the time I have.

And now it's time for me to go to bed. With luck, I'll be asleep by 9:45.
